Why see a Psychologist?

Are you wondering what the difference is between a Clinical Psychologist and a Psychiatrist?

Clinical Psychologists are trained in the behavioural sciences.

We have a solid understanding of human behaviour.

In addition we have extensive training in understanding the various problems people face in life and how to best treat these problems.  Psychologists are not able to prescribe medications.

Psychiatrists are trained medical doctors who have additional

training in mental health and are able to prescribe medications.

Appointments, Referrals & Fees
Appointments

The easiest way to make an appointment is to ring me directly. Should I not be able to respond to your call, leave a message on my voicemail and I will call you back as soon as it is possible. You may also contact me by email. I will then call you to discuss the nature of your enquiry and to arrange an appointment time. Please note that emails will be checked on Mondays to Fridays once a day.

Once we have agreed upon a time, a letter will be sent to you confirming the appointment. For your convenience a reminder text of your appointment will be sent to you two days prior to your appointment.
Referrals

  • How do I get referred?

You are able to receive Psychological services without being referred.  However, for you to receive any rebates from Medicare, a referral from either your GP or Psychiatrist is required.

  • Medicare Referrals

It may be possible for you to receive a substantial rebate from Medicare under the Better Access initiative of Medicare Australia.  You will need to discuss your eligibility with either your General Practitioner or Psychiatrist.  In order to claim your Medicare rebate the referring practitioner will need to complete the relevant referral documentation prior to you attending your appointment.

  • Non Medicare Referrals

Private payment - If you intend to pay for sessions yourself and you do not intend to claim a Medicare rebate, you do not need a doctor’s referral and there are no restrictions on the number of sessions. You may self refer for this option.

Private health insurance may offer some rebate for self-referrals.  This is something you will need to discuss with your private health fund. No referral is necessary for this. If you are claiming from your private health fund you will be given a receipt, which will need to take to your health fund to claim the rebate.

Fees & Rebates

  • What will sessions cost?

Please contact me to discuss fees.

  • How do I pay?

There are no EFTPOS facilities thus prepayment is

    requested prior to session.

  • How do I get my rebate from Medicare?

Once you have paid the full amount of the fee, Medicare will directly deposit the rebate into your bank account. This will be done online; however, you need to ensure that your Medicare has your bank account details.
